Recent 08 Avalon Owner with an issue

I just purchased an 08 Avalon(touring) with 40k miles on it. So far everything is operating great. The only hiccup so far has been that then engine compartment produces a noticeable "ping" or "knocking" noise for the 1st 10-15mins. of driving. I noticed a recall and plan on taking it into local dealer. Is there anything I should be on the lookout for when interacting with dealer, I hear it is a atleast a full day job. I assume/hope that the noise is not damaging to the engine? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to TN and to Avalon ownership!

You might want to join in the 3rd Gen Avalon forum discussions. The topic of engine noise comes up from time to time there. Might want to do a search on the topic and read what we've hashed out before.

Relax. Common to this car. No worries. Get the recalls done, and drive it forever.

The noise, if it is a ticking sound, that goes away when the engine warms up, is likely the injectors, and from what I have learned (believe it or not) is supposed to be a good thing!
