Soft Brake pedal

Hey Guys

I have a 2009 Corolla S, and i find the brake pedal is "soft".

It's not spungy, there is no air in my system, i checked my disks in the front, and they have about 50% life in them. I also did a leak test, and i don't have any, but at a red light, i can pump the pedal or even hold it hard, and it'll go to the floor, is this normal on Corollas?

I just got a new Mazda3, and a friend of mine has a 2 year old VW Jetta TDI and i found the pedals are more assertive.

Not sure if its normal, but it happens in my car too. I'm looking into stainless steel brake lines though.

If you can depress the pedal all the way to the floor, that's not normal. Bring it to the dealership to check the brake system.

I did take it to the dealer, they said everything is "within spec". I wonder if the drum brakes have anything to do with it? The 2 other cars are 4 wheel disks. Does anyone know if drums need more force to function?

This is normal according to Toyota. I have had more than my fair share of brake issues, there is a thread floating around with my ranting. The dealer has replaced my struts, pads and calipers through the ordeal; my notes from the Toyota technician stated that the brake pedal will depress all the way to the floor when at a complete stop which is normal.

No joke. I have never had another car with this issue.

This is scary. What happens if the pedal is to the floor and car does not stop? Do a Flintstone?

My car does'nt do that.

I think thats just normal for our cars, because once you fully brake at a red light and press the pedal all the way down and then once you let go of the brake and hit it again it becomes way more sensitive.. Try it, its probably something to do with emergency braking but it makes the most sense of what your getting at.. Make a complete stop press the brake all the way down and then release and let the car roll abit and tap the brake. When you tap it, it fells like your pressing your foot all the way down but you arent.

I tried this today but I couldn't get my pedal to go to the floor. It doesn't really feel much different than any of my other Toyotas.
