OBD II code reader

If I wanted to purchase a OBD II code reader for our 2006 Sienna, where would I begin to look for something like that? Must I buy a specific one that works with the Sienna? Where does the reader plug in?

Thanks!

They are "Generic" in that all vehicles starting in 1996 in the USA are required to be OBDII compliant.

I have a Scangauge....and like it as it also has a gauge function.....simple and easy to use.

There are other brands of readers that are very good as well.

Picked this one up at Amazon -- I thinnk it was a bit cheaper back when I got it -- but still not a bad deal for under $40

Autel-MaxiScan MS300

here's the Amazon link

Amazon Amazon

it works fine -- reads codes, clears them and resets all sensors to a neutral state -- the car still needs to go thru a "drive cycle" that resets all the sensors before it'll pass inspection.

PS: the reader plugs into a socket located under the dash and to the left of the steering wheel; it's pretty obvious and easy to access once you start looking for it -- plastic horizontal socket with many pin connections on it. You connect the scanner, turn the key to "on" and press scan. After it scansm, there are simple menus that permit you to read codes and erase them.

Mr. Detail, right?

Well, then you might like the ultra-gauge, which looks like GPS, connects to your OBDII, and not only allows to reset codes, but gives you quite a number of display gauges.

I have an '01 Sienna. I need a code tool that will do the various tests that Toyota has encorporated in to the tool. Less expensive is better for me and using a laptop is an option. Can any one recommend a tool or cable that has the test functions?
