Timing Belt Time, Help!

Tackling replacing timing belt, oil seals on my 95 coupe (I'm scared!). Using the great info from this forum. Just wanted some thoughts on the timing belt kit and cam/crankshaft tool i want to purchase. Any recommendations, any ideas would help.

your OEM kit doesn't carry tensioner and idler pulleys.



try these timing kits:

a) rockauto AISIN Part # TKT003 with water pump (no housing) at $122

it also does NOT have the drive belts, nor thermostat or its gasket. It also does not have the oil pump seals/gaskets.

or go with your kit you found, but pickup tensioner (and spring) and idler pulleys elsewhere (NSK or Koyo brands are OEM on bearings).

however you will need your own bolts (also for HB puller, read below), you can get them in Home Depot or Lowes or Ace Hardware, they are hex head bolts M6x1.00 around 50mm long (get 2 pairs), also get matching M6 nuts and M6 washers (wide, like 3/4'' diameter) you will need them for HB puller.



loan those tools for free (refundable deposit required) from Autozone, they will make the job easier:

1/2'' breaker bar (get a matching 19mm 1/2'' socket for it so can easily loosen the crank bolt with starter blip method)

Torque wrench 1/2'', so you may need adapters from HFT so 3/8'' sockets fit on it:

Pop of the valve cover and remove cam cap over the oil seal, seal will pop out with your fingers. Replace valve cover gasket if needed.



That tip right there just saved you a TON of grieve and at least 45min.

Make sure that you apply new Sealant to the Camshaft Cap too to prevent oil leaking.

If you don't remove the cap...A trick my instructor taught me, is to get a REALLY thin flat head screw driver and punch it right in the middle of the inside and out diameter, of the seal and push out.
