I've been looking around for something to replace my '01 HL Limited. I've expressed my displeasure at Toyota's decision to make 19" tires standard on the '10 HL Limited. I realize this is the HL forum but tonight I was browsing the Toyota site and see they are listing the '10 4-Runner. If it wasn't bad enough the new 4-Runner looks like a Soviet Military Scout Car, the Limited model now comes standard with... wait for it... 20" tires. What is Toyota smoking over there? They have always marketed the 4-Runner as an alternative to the Highlander if you are more interested in towing capacity and something more capable for off-roading.
Right... 20-inch, 60-series tires are exactly what I want on a vehicle to cruise through the back woods. Heck, I doubt you could even air-down those tires for cruising the beaches in the Outer Banks.
What is the SUV world coming to?

yep they are going after athe urban "group" with the "20's" spining down the ave. That is why I like the look of my '04 HL siting on the AT tires on black steel wheels 70 series side walls and no center caps. Looks FJ Cruiser bad. I make my statement with my truck in the other direction. I am puting fltstyle 4WD mud flaps on as well.

Trail = 17" wheels, Locking rear differential, Multi-terrain select and Crawl Control...
Limited = pimpalicious 20" "rims"....

First off, if you wanted a SUV to do some serious off roading you wouldn't be buying a Limited. You'd get a Base and add better tires and wheels to start with.
I bought a Sport and I love the way it drives. I drove an SE and a Limited before I bought and they both had way too much turn in roll for my taste.
I came from a 98 Chevy Blazer (s-10 sized) and the Highlander is head and shoulders above it in the way it drives.
I had a 2001 Silverado 4x4 that was loaded before the Blazer and I only got it dirty once or twice.
The reality is that 95% of SUV buyers never use them off road.
This is all IMHO of course.

Just sell the 20"s and get some nice bead locks. I am with you on the usefulness ranking but as long as we have a "larger wheel is cool" demographic the dealers will throw them out. I have seen a couple GM's go down a size lately though so maybe Krunkville is closing it's doors .
