no, not yet. i brought the car to him last oct due to ticking sound and lost of power. he finds that the cam rod needed to be replace, and valve adjustment. fast forward to last week, same symptons started again. this time he said that something has to do with the heads, that they have to be brought to the machine shop to be resurface. he's going to look at it tommrow. im hoping maybe it will be just a simple valve adjustment. 700 bucks is just to steep for me, but with price of gas going up, I might not have any other choices.

lol if they are already removed, 700 bucks is insane. The price I have experienced is about 60 bucks per head. Now if you are talking him doing the complete job for 700 bucks, thats pretty cheap.

Agreed. basically, the machine shop charges 40-60 to put your head on the machine, cut it, measure it, give it back. It sounds like you have someone else doing all the working taking the engine apart and putting it back together, in which case yea that's not too bad for heads, timing set, etc. Before you ask what prices are reasonable make sure you find out exactly what's being done.

BTW what's a cam rod?
